What is all the Chris Farley backlash for??
If you haven’t seen the commercial, it’s no doubt tough to see Chris Farley on the screen again.
Is the commercial tasteless? Come on….no.
Here is the article.
What I find alarming is that nobody is mentioning the fact that the families of these deceased celebrities are approving the use of the images.
Farley’s family agreed to the commercial being made and Direct TV cashes in on Farley’s image. So why is Direct TV the target of the backlash? I am sure Farley’s family is well compensated…quit whining. Oh and Direct TV has done this before with Heather O’Rourke from Poltergeist….again…the family’s consent.
Yeah, it’s funny, he was a funny guy and most of us remember him for his on screen antics. His death was tragic and it was avoidable, but many have died as a result of drugs and lifestyle. Elvis, John Belushi, both of which we see their image on TV quite often.
Elvis is the big one that comes to mind. If you remember a few years back I think Celine Dion did a duo with Elvis on an awards show using clever special effects…was there a backlash of his image being splattered across the country again? If there was, I didn’t hear about it.
I think Chris Farley is an easy target because he was loud, obnoxious, and his death was seen as a prophetic end to his life. How is that any different then Elvis or Belushi?
Farley’s been dead for almost 15 years…what is there some time requirement in which you can’t use someone’s image on TV?
Let’s remember Farley for the laughter and good times he brought us. I see him doing the fat guy little coat routine and I still laugh and say to myself “god that was funny”.
Maybe we should look at everything that is potentially tasteless…. Toddlers and Tiaras (pathetic but makes good TV), Jon and Kate (we all know this story) All the ”Housewives” series (shame what some of these women have become, but we still watch it)
There is so much garbage on TV, leave Farley’s 60 second commercial alone…it’s funny shit.
Why aren’t they just simply flying the plane?
The NWA pilots that overshot the airport recently claimed that they were engrossed with figuring out the new scheduling software being implemented by their new parent Delta Airlines.
The First Officer stated he was trying to help the Captain figure out how to use the new software program. Holy hell, please tell me a Captain with an extensive career as a pilot – managing a cockpit of a huge airliner – is not confused by the shiny pretty letters on his laptop.
I was confused last week when I saw the flight attendant bringing food in to the pilot on our 3 hour flight. I was thinking, there is room in the cockpit of this MD-80 for a lunch tray? Where will they put it? Why are they eating when they should be flying, its only 3 hours, can’t they eat an energy bar or something? Then I see that these two ying yangs are playing on their laptops – I was truly waiting to hear that they had been Facebook’ing. Which is worse, being drunk or being on Mafia Wars?
Is a truck actually an office?? Come on…
What a poor schmuck. Dude gets fined in his truck for lighting up.
According to the ordinance that was passed., yes the truck cabin is considered you office and if you light a cig, you’re busted. This is a weird one, but if you think about it…yeah…an independent truck driver does work out of his vehicle, so…..
I just found this story amusing.
Obama wins a Nobel Peace Prize…?
The news was announced that Barack Obama has been selected by the Norweigian Nobel Committee as a winner of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.
My first reaction is congratulations as this is a nice honor for our Prez to win, on the other hand I am concerned. First let me declare that I am a fan of Obama and I voted for him. Funny coming from someone who has voted the Republican ticket since I was eligible to vote, but something was different this year.
I liked the message of change, I had hope in the messages of health care reform, improvement of foreign relations, and an overall changing of the guard per se. The stance on the wars seemed to be a stand still, troops dying in large numbers and seemingly no direction of our executive leadership to change the course.
I’m just at odds with him actually winning the award right now, almost as if the committee felt bad that his bid for the Chicago 2016 Summer games bombed. Granted, Obama is a true statesman of what is just and right, but so are a lot of other Presidents, the problem is convincing Washington lawmakers to get on board with your thinking.
Yes, he is an advocate of sweeping reform and change, but that is the stance of all politicians and only a few economically viable programs actually see the light of day.
Yes, he is making great strides to reach out to other nations and mend wounds that were seen caused by the last admin. However, the differences in cultures, values, and religion go back thousands of years and it’s not like other administrations weren’t trying to win over the Middle East.
I guess my issue is that I want to see Obama hit hard times and I want to see him tested. I don’t want purely the flash of fancy speeches, the well crafted delivery to world leaders, or the public view that words equate to action, they don’t.
The Peace prize is not only an accolade but now might become a burden. A burden to perform. The award places him in a position which requires even more expectation to lead but also to achieve. Not all goals in politics are reachable, there are accommodations, backdoors, and alternative approaches.
My fear is that too much God like treatment will tarnish the underlying truth, the truth being that Obama is at a very critical crossroads of his tenure and the moment of truth is starting to peak. The world will inevitably be watching now.
