Brittany Murphy’s death is troubling
Not that it’s another tragic celebrity death, not that it’s another young life taken so early…these are all troubling and sad in their own right.
It’s another tragic case of someone getting caught up in the web of drugs…the legal type!
It truly saddens me that so many of these stars seek out more and more prescription drugs in a never ending spiral of adding another and another to the mix. All the while not realizing that these too are toxic substances if used in excess or used in the wrong combination.
I hope Miss Murphy did not have an underlying heart condition which went undetected, only time and further medical examination will determine that.
I also hope her death is not overshadowed by news of bedside drugs and eating disorders. Already, the media is jumping all over the story that an assortment of prescription drugs were discovered in her room and she recently appeared stick thin. So I ask…
Hollywood…why must you render this life on your victims?
Hollywood…how come you don’t protect your own?
Hollywood…is the almighty dollar and image always going to trump human decency, compassion, and care?
Hollywood…why do you bless us with talented and energetic individuals only to extinguish their light and take them away just as fast?
Hollywood…does anyone ever hold you accountable?
We can’t help these troubled souls because you keep us away with your body guards, iron fences, and tinted windows.
Whether it be meds or an eating disorder…they both are a result of pain. The outside world sits idle and watches you eat up and spit out those who chase your dream.
They have the courage to leave their live’s behind in order to chase your dream. At least offer them a life afterwards if the chase falls short.
Internet fun for the weekend…
By far one of my favorite websites of late is called GraphJam.com. Essentially, the website attempts to break down the world and how we interact with it in a series of graphs. It is hilarious when you see how the world around us can be so easily summed up in a pie or bar chart. It all makes perfect sense.
Users are encouraged to submit their own which are reviewed and posted if found to be humorous. Included are some great examples…enjoy!

Hot new golfer to challenge Tiger’s limelight
It’s tough not to hear Tiger Woods’ name in the media of late with all this marital infedelity hoopla and now text messages coming out from his brood of women across the country.
Frankly, it’s getting old and let’s focus our attention on those athletes who don’t get all the attention.
Especially those golfers who shy away from the media hype, don’t get into trouble with the law, and keep a very low profile.
For instance, this fancy clad duffer is making an impression on the golf community. A relative unknown among the ranks of professional golf but slowy and steadily making the upward swing into the ranks of Tiger, Phil, and Padraig.
Athletic, fit, trim and I cannot wait to watch him….err wait…who is this guy?
This is JOHN DALY !!!!
For those not familiar, Daly has lost a total of 185 lbs after Lap Band surgery. He is exercising, not drinking as much, and is now forced to control is eating. You’ve got to be kidding me!!??!!??!!
Eight years of success turns into one year of demise for Kansas coach Mark Mangino
The story and the jokes can finally come to an end. Sports fans throughout the midwest have been following the fate of KU head football coach Mark Mangino and allegations that he verbally and physically abused his players.
Well fans, now that he has resigned and the weeks of rumors and headlines about his coaching future will likely cease, what now?
If the allegations are true then Mangino and his family will have to deal with the matter outside of KU football and it’s possible we will see little coverage of the story anymore, we might, but news about “has beens” is never interesting and doesn’t last long.
I’m all about treating people fairly and respecting the rights of individuals and to think that a coach might be over the top and potentially abusive to players is unacceptable. I have touched on the earlier stories of coaches literally working their players to death and it’s inexcusable, it’s football…not the Roman gladiator training program.
What has always rubbed me wrong is how perspectives and viewpoints are influenced. In the world of competitive collegiate sports, it’s obvious that viewpoints are swayed by wins and losses. One year ago I attended a KU/KState football game in Lawrence, KS and the energy was incredible, fifty thousand screaming fans, aroma of BBQ in the air, beer flowing, and the weather was perfect.
The KU football team comes bouncing out of the locker room facility and the place erupts and behind the team walks this short, very heavy though almost regal figure…Coach Mangino.
Yes, he is a very heavy man and he is short…he looked more like a godfather then a college football coach. The man had an entourage, students alike were chanting Mangino, young guys wearing the infamous “My Coach can eat Yours” T-shirt, however, the man was beloved and he entered the field like Elvis would have been greeted entering a concert venue.
Why? KU was playing well and they had just come off an Orange Bowl victory. The man could do no wrong, he was adored, on all the radio shows, the center of attention, the KU football program was in a state of euphoria which hadn’t been seen in years or maybe never.
Football was never KU’s sport until Mangino came along and it will only improve with a qualified replacement . The fat jokes are funny to a point but what happens is that he is eventually defined by his personal appearance. When your team is 12-1, obviously you’re untouchable and these young men who supposedly suffered at the hands of Mangino apparently never came forward or it just wasn’t the right time.
I am in no way condoning the abuse of players, but do losing coaches have to endure more than the feeling of failure that comes with a losing season? It has to be compounded by outside influences deciding to come forward? Maybe Coach Mangino got cocky and aggressive with his new found success, maybe his level of expectations rose to a point that he tolerated very little from his players, maybe KU football players for the first time finally experienced life as losers in a WINNING PROGRAM!! Ding Ding! I don’t imagine Bob Stoops is a fun guy to be around when the Sooners lose and I don’t imagine practices are cupcakes and sweet tea.
Bham! Your team is now 5-7 and you make horrible coaching decisions in your own end zone, you’re history. I am very anxious to see if these lawsuits and reports of abuse will actually come to fruition and formal charges carried out against him…or was this a nice, vindictive way to oust a head coach out of a program that only ten years ago was the laughing stock of the Big 12.
Let’s hope Bill Self doesn’t contract some glandular condition which balloons him to 300 lbs…I can only imagine how quickly the search for a new coach will be underway.
Tiger’s “cat” is almost out of the bag
Of course we couldn’t wait too long before throwing in our own two cents about the Woods story, it wouldn’t be American!
I’m getting to the point where I’m getting angry because this is now a public issue.
It’s private until Tiger hopped behind the wheel and crashed his vehicle.
It’s private until the police are called and a report is called in of a man appearing to be unconscious laying in the grass.
A private matter does not erupt into the street with a crazed blond woman smashing out the windows of a $70, 000 SUV.
A private matter does not involve neighbors supposedly hearing Woods screaming “You’ve ruined Thanksgiving, way to go!”
A private matter sure as hell does not involve state troopers, a trip the ER, and neighbors.
This is a classic “who done it?” scenario playing out for the Woods’ family and I wish Tiger would man up and admit what happened. This didn’t happen behind closed doors and it was not hidden from the authorities so there is nothing private about it.
The stories are swirling and most seem pretty credible based on how this accident played out. It’s been thought Tiger’s wife beat him with his own clubs and forced him to flee the house, thus crashing his SUV. Now this version sounds the most dramatic, and all kidding aside, does sound like a likely scenario. Even Wanda Sykes is chiming in and wonders if Tiger’s wife has just as good club selection as he does….funny.
Regardless, it happened and not allowing the police to do their job is pathetic. Tiger, you’re rich and the best golfer in the world but you are also a tax paying citizen and when your domestic issues get out of hand, people will know.
No different then the Jones’es down the street …
Come on ABC…Lambert only kissed another guy, big deal
What’s wrong ABC? You can’t allow a very flamboyant and talented singer on GMA?
However, you have prime time shows that openly display homosexual men/women and sometimes they kiss!
Brothers and Sisters, Modern Family, Grey’s Anatomy, they all have gay characters who quite frequently engaged in PDA. Granted, these are actors but there is no difference.
Adam Lambert grabbed a guy and gave him a smack on the lips on live TV. Oh noooooooooo!
Palin…go away!
Seriously, I don’t care that you have a new book….I don’t care that you have a tattered relationship with your daughter’s “baby daddy“…and I find absolutely nothing of this fascinating in the least. It’s all over TV, she’s been on every talk show on earth….all for what? To increase exposure for a possible presidential run in 2012?
People, the woman quit her job as governor of Alaska…and she is now suddenly viable to be President? I typically love juicy stories in the media but this woman, no matter left or right wing, just doesn’t do it for me. The circumstances are boring and it’s just another public person with a normal dysfuctional family (we all have dysfunction).
I just don’t find her’s real interesting…
I guess the Larry Johnson petition worked…
The inevitable happened today, LJ has been ousted.
The KC Chiefs running back has been handed his pink slip.
Could not be a better topper to an already horrific season for the Chiefs franchise.
Losing record and a long rebuilding road ahead…again?
I found a photo that captures Larry Johnson nicely. This one can be hung on the “Dad, I wanna to be a running back like LJ wall”.
So long…I’m sure the Eagles will pick him up.
Kansas City has had enough of Larry Johnson’s antics
So much so that a petition has been started by KC Chiefs fans demanding that he be dismissed from the team.
The guy is a good player but he has been plagued by his attitude that he doesn’t give a rat’s posterior about being in this city.
Sadly, he doesn’t think twice about making comments about his teammates and now, his own head coach.
Oh and freely using the word fa**ot in public forums…a locker room near live mics is not a good place to practice that right.
Free speech comes with a cost, we know this. He also has an attitude that most fans are not fond of. I’m not starting another argument about athletes and their obligations to the public, face it, they do have an obligation.
You make a lot of money and people see you all the time, it comes with the job. If you wanna bag on homosexuals, don’t have a public Twitter account where everyone can see it.
The petition is no joke, the fans want him gone:
Here it is…
Dear Scott Pioli,
Let us start with the point: We do not want Larry Johnson to become the Kansas City Chiefs all time leading rusher.
We are lifelong fans of the Kansas City Chiefs. Win or lose, good or bad, right or wrong, we love the Kansas City Chiefs. Growing up in Kansas City, we were raised knowing there are two seasons in KC: Chiefs season and Road Construction. We feel we speak for an entire city when we say that we are an organization of hard working fans, hard working players and blue collar coaches that care passionately about not only our win/loss record, but also for the integrity of the game of football.
Being new to the organization, we would like to talk about something that has been on our minds since before the season started. We have had a long standing tradition of putting the best players in roles that best serve the needs of our team.
As a fan base, we have always taken pride in some of the names that have played on our field, hung in the Ring of Honor and those that are now immortalized in the Hall of Fame at Arrowhead Stadium. Names like Bobby Bell, Christian Okoye, Willie Roaf, Lenny Dawson, Priest Holmes, Abner Hayes and the amazing Derrick Thomas. These are just a few of the names that will live forever in the hearts and minds of Chiefs fans everywhere.
The times we’ve spent watching and supporting our great past players are times that we hold dear. The players were role models for us as we grew up, and they will be names we share with our children as they grow up. With that being said, one name that I hope is never mentioned amongst those great Chief names is Larry Johnson.
While we are thankful for his service, we feel that Larry has been a black eye on the organization and has no business being mentioned with some of the above names.
During his first few years in Kansas City, Larry Johnson ran through holes created by one of the greatest offensive lines ever put together. He was handed the ball and was asked to follow Tony Richardson, the best fullback to ever don a Chiefs helmet. Because of those early successes, Larry Johnson now sits on the cusp of becoming the all-time leading rusher in Kansas City Chiefs history. Not to discredit anything he has accomplished, but we believe it would be a travesty if Larry were to surpass the great Priest Holmes as the Chiefs all-time leading rusher.
It’s not a hidden fact that Larry hates being in Kansas City. He doesn’t like the organization, he doesn’t like the fans, he doesn’t like the city. He has been more than vocal about how he feels about being a Chief. We’ve waited for years for him to be traded and we don’t believe that there is an offensive line that can open a hole big enough for Larry and the chip on his shoulder to run through.
Let’s talk about facts now. So far on the season, here are Larry’s numbers:
7 Games
132 attempts
358 yards
2.7 yards per carry
51.1 yards per game
0 TD
0 runs of 20 or more yards
2 fumblesThat is abysmal. For a professional back in the NFL, that is absolutely terrible. There is no reason for him to keep getting starts. There is no reason for him to even see the ball. There is no reason for him to be on the sidelines. The number 27 should be taken off the field because of a line like that.
We are asking you, as fans of this team, this organization, and of the pride that this city has in the Chiefs, please deactivate Larry Johnson. Please do not let his name sit atop the all-time rushing leaders in Kansas City Chiefs history. He needs a mere 80 yards to surpass Priest. He doesn’t deserve that opportunity. He has never represented anything close to the values that we have for our Chiefs and it would be another dagger to the fans that continue to support this proud franchise.
We are asking this as a favor to those of us who have supported this team long, long, long before you were brought in. We will support you through thick and thin – you will find out that we are a loyal, loyal bunch. As you will learn, Kansas Citians are very supportive of our organizations. We love the Royals and the Chiefs. We understand there are ups and downs and we do not expect the team to win 12 games every year. We know the Chiefs will get better and that it might take some time. While we may be frustrated at times, we understand. However, allowing Larry Johnson to attain a record is something that can never be erased. In a year where the team is trying to look toward the future with many young players, please don’t add to the collective morose this city is feeling by allowing one of the truly great players, people, and role models in this city’s sporting history to be replaced in the record books by someone who we don’t like and who doesn’t like us. Show this town you are the leader the organization needs and release or deactivate Larry Johnson now and never again let him wear the red and gold on Sunday.
Thanks for your time and understanding.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
That pretty much says it all right there.
