Hot new golfer to challenge Tiger’s limelight
It’s tough not to hear Tiger Woods’ name in the media of late with all this marital infedelity hoopla and now text messages coming out from his brood of women across the country.
Frankly, it’s getting old and let’s focus our attention on those athletes who don’t get all the attention.
Especially those golfers who shy away from the media hype, don’t get into trouble with the law, and keep a very low profile.
For instance, this fancy clad duffer is making an impression on the golf community. A relative unknown among the ranks of professional golf but slowy and steadily making the upward swing into the ranks of Tiger, Phil, and Padraig.
Athletic, fit, trim and I cannot wait to watch him….err wait…who is this guy?
This is JOHN DALY !!!!
For those not familiar, Daly has lost a total of 185 lbs after Lap Band surgery. He is exercising, not drinking as much, and is now forced to control is eating. You’ve got to be kidding me!!??!!??!!
Tiger’s “cat” is almost out of the bag
Of course we couldn’t wait too long before throwing in our own two cents about the Woods story, it wouldn’t be American!
I’m getting to the point where I’m getting angry because this is now a public issue.
It’s private until Tiger hopped behind the wheel and crashed his vehicle.
It’s private until the police are called and a report is called in of a man appearing to be unconscious laying in the grass.
A private matter does not erupt into the street with a crazed blond woman smashing out the windows of a $70, 000 SUV.
A private matter does not involve neighbors supposedly hearing Woods screaming “You’ve ruined Thanksgiving, way to go!”
A private matter sure as hell does not involve state troopers, a trip the ER, and neighbors.
This is a classic “who done it?” scenario playing out for the Woods’ family and I wish Tiger would man up and admit what happened. This didn’t happen behind closed doors and it was not hidden from the authorities so there is nothing private about it.
The stories are swirling and most seem pretty credible based on how this accident played out. It’s been thought Tiger’s wife beat him with his own clubs and forced him to flee the house, thus crashing his SUV. Now this version sounds the most dramatic, and all kidding aside, does sound like a likely scenario. Even Wanda Sykes is chiming in and wonders if Tiger’s wife has just as good club selection as he does….funny.
Regardless, it happened and not allowing the police to do their job is pathetic. Tiger, you’re rich and the best golfer in the world but you are also a tax paying citizen and when your domestic issues get out of hand, people will know.
No different then the Jones’es down the street …
Another thing to piss me off about golf, even though I love the game
The tournament this weekend in which Tiger won was interesting (for those who follow golf). From what I know about PGA tourneys, they will typically pair the two leaders towards the end of the pack for the last day of the tourney. For all you non golf fans, that means they will tee off last.
What also plays into this are the tight assed, traditional, “shook on in blood” rules that also accompany the game of golf.
The players are occasionally timed and done so to keep play evenly distributed throughout the field and there are hefty fines for “slow” play. You know this if you’ve casually golfed with friends, you’re chugging beers with your foursome, there is a group in front that apparently sucks (in your assessment), you cuss them out and finally a retired guy comes rolling up in his marshall’s cart and tells the group to speed up play. Annoying, but not life changing, but at the PGA level you can be fined for it, big time.
Woods won this tournament by beating Padraig Harrington, who most felt (including Woods) was rushed to make shots quicker then he normally would of because of a judge indicating that they were playing too slow.
I’m sorry, I know there are rules and sports need to have rules and in golf the player’s help create them which is good (and bad). But come on, I know Tiger is one of the top players and he may get some special treatment in other areas (well, he does). I actually agree with his displeasure on this one. Aside from the fact they were on top of the leader board, give them a ‘effing break. For once maybe a rule in golf can be bent just a bit, by the way here is the actual rule:
When players take more than the allotted time while on the clock—40 seconds, with an additional 20 seconds for the first player to hit each of the shots toward the green—they are given a warning. A second bad time leads to a $5,000 fine and a one-shot penalty
Woods is now getting a fine slapped on him because he broke another rule of the PGA. Players are not allowed to publicly berate or talk critically of an official, a judge, or other players in a manner that would do harm to that individual.
If Woods and Harrington were battling it out for the right to win the tournament, don’t introduce some stupid rule that could potentially hamper either of their chances to win!! I know a judge has to enforce a rule and are paid to do so, but lighten up. I am glad Tiger said something.
I don’t think this was a cocky Tiger Woods comment, he made it in the defense of Harrington, who lost. I do think the comments were warranted and I commend Tiger for shooting his mouth off and he should of. The rules are too strict.
Golf is one of those games where there shouldn’t be a clock and nobody should be held to the enforcement of time. Baseball games can run 6 hours, football/soccer/basketball have to be timed or the players would pass out from exhaustion. Ain’t happening in golf, even at the professional level, don’t enforce a timing rule which can and will make any golfer feel rushed and not perform at their best (and when money is involved, even more so)
Pat you on the back Mr. Woods.
Daly’s new golf pants must of blinded the tunnel and it didn’t see his bus coming!
My buddy John is in the news again but this doesn’t sound like something he did on purpose or involved a ton of liquor or a casino. What does that leave?
His bus running into a bridge of course!
Love the blue and white checks and the lap band surgery is noticable, would you agree?
The space shuttle just reported something awfully bright beaming from Spain..
Oh it’s my buddy John Daly. Well, he is currently serving a six month suspension from the PGA for behavior so he’s enjoying himself on the European tour.
He may be one of those athletes, like Michael Phelps, that deep down inside I want to curl up with and watch movies..okay I admit it.
Daly drinks a lot, smokes too much, and has a thing for Hooters events. On occasion, he does play golf and was spotted in these awesome pants this week in Spain!
I wish I was so happy after losing millions to gambling, having four ex-wives, and struggling to make ends meet as a pro golfer. He doesn’t give a crap and he’ll write a country song about it.
Gotta get those pants…
Golf is getting very ugly these days
Once in a great while we get news from the golf front that is actually on the entertaining side. Apparently Tiger Wood’s caddy has quite the ego and attitude of late. Most of these guys are talented golfers in their own right, they make snap decisions on the golf course, and their guidance can be the difference between tournament wins and getting cut.
Recently, Steve Williams made some comments to The Guardian about Phil Mickelson and it wasn’t very nice considering he’s a caddie, not a PGA golfer. Williams quipped when asked about Mickelson – “I wouldn’t call Mickelson a great player because I hate the *^*^*^.” The expletive that I left out is the same thing that nurses do to a child’s finger to draw blood and rhymes with “tick”. He made this statement in front of a crowd of 250 at a charity event. He then went on to relish in another story about a tournament in 2002 in which a fan hollered out a comment referring to Mickelson’s ”man boobs”.
This is quite a bold statement coming from a man who has his bread buttered by the greatest golfer in the world. Mickelson’s camp did not fire back which shows some class if you ask me.
The part that bugs me is that William’s is a hired hand, Tiger’s employee – basically a glorified servant. Tiger has a reputation for not tolerating behavior like this from his employees and fired his last caddie (Remember that cute little man with the big mustache?) Williams is supposedly one of the highest paid athletes in his home country of New Zealand, simply because he caddies for Tiger Woods.
This isn’t like a receiver bagging on his QB, but rather a check out clerk calling out the store manager. Only in golf can a comment cause so much controversy.
