When it rains for Tiger, it pours…

The muscle of this man has shrunk and shows more sign of atrophy as each new story surfaces.  This blog did a pretty good job of leaving Tiger alone and I have to say after the recent events, I still stick to that credo.

The bomb of the last couple months has dropped, the shrapnel has scattered and settled, so what now.

A man who’s golf game is struggling (mentally the dude can’t be ready yet) he took time off to heal and his game is suffering because of it.  He will never heal, he is a superstar who’s star came crashing into a dark, murky swamp somewhere in south Florida earlier this year.

A looming split from his wife, can’t say this is a surprise and also testament to the class that Elin has maintained throughout this entire ordeal.  Not standing by Tiger during his press conference was a sign of a strong woman who was never in the limelight even when times were good for the family.

Tiger loses his swing coach earlier in the week, most likely due to other circumstances then what we assume, but you never know….only Hank Haney knows deep down inside why he made the decision to resign.

I don’t want the world to feel sorry for Tiger, this is not the Tiger of old, he’s not that hero anymore.   He’s a mortal man now, actually he always was.  The world has removed the rose colored glasses and unveiled a young guy who made choices, sadly, not a lot of good ones here of late.   He is still a great golfer who will bounce back and arrive on top of his sport again.  Elin will secretly live her life as well out of the limelight, bless her and I hope she succeeds at doing that.

I don’t want to see any more revalations and saucy stories from other girls on his candy list, what good will it do?   Give Entertainment Tonight more filler time, provide Inside Edition the hit of the day…enough.  I have been a little easy on some other athletes, and in hindsight, maybe a little too light.  Fame, power, and constant public exposure has its price, some pay, other’s get away with it.

It will happen again…

George Michael and motor vehicles, a marriage made in heaven

gmHe wasn’t wasted so he declares, but it has happened again.  George Michael discovers more trouble behind the wheel.

“I’m never gonna drive again, wasted no but I’ve got no feeling”

“So I’m never gonna drive again, the way I drove with youuuu, hooo, hooo”

Clinton’s still working their magic!

Look into my eyes and tell me I am the greatest! Now let's go have sushi!

Look into my eyes and tell me I am the greatest! Now let's go have sushi!

Bill Clinton is no longer charming interns but he still has a keen way of becoming a political pawn and ship himself to North Korea.   Thankfully, there was a bigger calling and that was the release of two US journalists who have been imprisoned since March.

Still, I dont like to see our government bow to this man.  Didnt we have a policy of never negotiate with terrorists?  This country was considered an axis of evil, wasnt it?

Oh wait, that was the ole’ Texan’s administration…by the way 33% of Americans still trust GW as  an ambassador to other countries.  He isn’t doing it (and actually I am glad he isnt) but still…a pretty high rating considering Clinton is around 39% approval for his ambassadorism (a word?)

Kudos to you Bill and Hillary, you caved a bit (semi-admirable), said you were sorry, and best of all two young women are back home with their families.

Something I’ve Observed: The Henry Gates Incident

I am really tired of the racial profile circus.  I am a white guy and I will never know what it’s like to be racially profiled by law enforcement and I will admit that.  I don’t always like police officers, in fact, sometimes they have big heads and macho attitudes.  I see it, I am not blind…but will I argue with them for simply doing their jobs based on a reasonable suspicion?  NO!

Being a white guy…I too feel the pinch of discrimination that goes subtly undetected in the opposite direction as well.   I can be called a honkie’ but I can’t call someone the N word…I can’t march down the street with a million other white men, but others can…I can’t wear a white T-shirt with a Swastika but others can wear a huge FUBU jacket…on and on.

I am not a racist, I think it’s disgusting, I wasn’t raised in a family that thought that way, and I won’t raise my kids that way either.   None the less, if two legitimate, no good prowlers were actually breaking into Mr. Gates’ home, damn right he would want the cops called! Wouldn’t you?

Thank god there are people, like his neighbor, who had the gut feeling to call the police because something looked suspicious.  On the flip side, I have lived around people who were absolute paranoid cop callers and would call the police to report that the mail carrier didn’t have his shirt tucked in…or try to bust an 8 year old kid selling cookies because he looked Mexican.  There is a balance that has to be stricken, but two men ramming a door with shoulders and backpacks?  Looks like a break in to me folks!

Shame on you Dr. Gates for throwing an adult, racially charged temper tantrum because the police questioned you on your front porch.  I would have thrown your ass in the handcuffs too.  If the same thing happened in my neighborhood I would want the cops to do the same damn thing, even if I was the one being questioned.  In fact, I have had contractors walk up to my house for professional service apprasials and neighbors have called the police because they “just weren’t sure”.  It had nothing to do with race, because these contractors were all skinny WHITE dudes !!

They didnt bitch, they didnt throw out an accusation of racial profiling claiming the police labeled them “dirty construction workers”.  They didn’t end up in handcuffs for being questioned….no…they cooperated and laughed it off after the fact.   In fact, one gentlemen told me he gets the police called on him all the time because he replaces driveways and frequently walks around people’s front yards!!

Shame on you Mr. Obama as well, I like your fresh face of change, but do not accuse police officers of acting “stupidly”.  This was not Rodney King and these weren’t the riots of 1992.  Not every cop is a Mark Fuhrman.

The officer in question for the Gate’s case, for all accounts and purposes, is a decent family man who is caught in a fire storm.  This same cop has received honors from top ranking BLACK officers within the same department.  I am pretty confident without actually standing on the porch and witnessing the whole thing that Dr. Gates and his driver brought this on themselves.

I don’t want the cops to feel like they can’t respond to a call in fear of the racial backlash.

Dispatcher:  “911, what’s your emergency?”
Caller: “I need to report a suspected break-in”
Dispatcher: “Sir, are the subjects white or black?”
Caller: “Well, one looks black, a male..and there appears to be a white female too”
Dispatcher: “Hmm, okay…can you describe the black male…does he have a key or do you think he may actually live there and is just trying to jimmy his door?”
Caller: “Can’t you just send an officer out here to check it out?”
Dispatcher: “Well, we have to be very careful about who we approach…we have sent an officer out to investigate the female suspect.”

I sure as hell hope it does not come to this for the sake of my family’s safety and others out there.  Let the police do their job and trust that black, white, hispanic, or whatever color of police officer…is there for your protection and if you abuse them, they will only protect themselves…and abuse you back.

Shame on FOX news too, they are having a field day with this story !

Almost a week after his death, MJ is racking up the accolades!

The ongoing coverage of his death has almost over extended its welcome (well, actually this past weekend it did) but still amazing in its own right is how the public is rushing to buy or download his music.  This is absolutely nuts!  We all knew it would be a media bombardment and you have to admit it’s fascinating to watch stories about people.  It keeps getting more hairy, more interesting, and if you are a fan of Entertainment Tonight, then you’ve hit the prime time jackpot!

Does this mean that for the last 10-15 years, nobody has given a rat’s “you know what” about his music until the dude dies?  Just a sign that so many only know of MJ for what he has done outside of the studio, which is sad.  Can you blame people?

Regardless of that crap, the numbers for MJ’s music is staggering and is unheard of in the digital era and Internet based music world of 2009.

Thanks to Yahoo for this information and thought I would share.mj

Collectively, Jackson’s solo albums sold 415,000 this past week. That’s extraordinary, given that his titles sold a combined 10,000 in the week ended June 21. Of the 415,000, 58 percent were digital downloads.

On the Top Digital Albums chart, Jackson has a record six out of the top 10 slots, including the top four. “The Essential Michael Jackson” leads the Top Digital Albums list with 80,000 downloads sold, while “Thriller” is No. 2 with 57,000.

Jackson places a record 25 songs on the 75-position Hot Digital Songs chart (21 solo hits and four with his siblings), smashing the mark of 14 charting titles established by David Cook in June 2008. Jackson’s Halloween radio staple, “Thriller,” moves 167,000, which is good for second place on the chart behind the 203,000 shifted by the Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling.”

OK! OK !  Is that enough proof positive the guy was a musical stud?  Nothing else to say or blog about (unless something real news worthy pops up in the near future)  Sadly, people like to hear about MJ whether it’s music related or garbage about his life.  If they keep dishing crap on MJ, I am sure I’ll eat it up too.

Daly’s new golf pants must of blinded the tunnel and it didn’t see his bus coming!

My buddy John is in the news again but this doesn’t sound like something he did on purpose or involved a ton of liquor or a casino.  What does that leave?

His bus running into a bridge of course!

Love the blue and white checks and the lap band surgery is noticable, would you agree?

Not sure what to think of Jon and Kate

The second and maybe final installment of the Jon and Kate fiasco.  I feel bad for the family as a separation and probable divorce is not an easy situation to endure.  I feel bad that this once seemingly happy couple (or maybe they weren’t) are now feeling the effects of a reality show covering every aspect of their lives.

My gut tells me that they weren’t a happy couple from the get go.  Yeah, the stats are not good for marriages with multiple births, but many of those families don’t document it.  Granted, multiple birth families do get press coverage but nothing like this.

TV and over exposure split this family up.   America loved how Jon and Kate nipped at each other week to week.  She’s the controller, agenda maker…he being the kind of dopey dad getting picked on and laughed at by the kids and viewers.

It was a formula that worked well until cameras and real life caught up to the Gosselins.   Obviously, true marital bliss was not present and the stress of a huge litter of kiddos plus pressures of keeping a TV show afloat became the tipping point of this relationship.

The ratings are high and they have made lots of money.  I guess now they can enjoy it…separately

Boy oh Boy George – you are really hurting me…and really going to make me cry

Boy George in the news again and this time he’s gonna be tied up for a while.   Let’s look back and reflect on the life of this superstar.

The evolution of George O’Dowd – aka Boy George…

Early years- George is born to his proud parents in England.  A future in music as a cross dressing 80’s pop princess was predicted early…

Boy_George_as_young_boy

As a young child in England, it was clear George was “different”.   He had a knack for looking kind of girlie…

boy_george_early_years

As a young..ahem…man…he had the look and was ready for pop stardom…

When times got tough, George looked to more stage roles in Kabuki theater productions…

He found time to help out the community who had given him so much over the years.  It was good to see him cleaning up the mean streets of NY…

His act cleaned up and sober!  He is back on the road doing what he does best…

Oh no, today the past has caught up with Boy George.  Boy, you really can’t make a habit of bringing drugged out young men to your house and handcuffing them to your bed.  It might come back to haunt you.  I’m rooting for you and wish you the best in jail.    Probably best if you hide like a karma karma karma chameleon in that cell.

The day belongs to US Airways pilot Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger III

How can you not marvel at this story?  Without being a complete repeat of the news-wires - this story is truly one that belongs in the pilot training courses.   A double engine choke out caused by a flock of birds.  If you think about the weather conditions that planes fly through and flight attendants have told me that planes are subjected to wind tunnel tests 3 times as strong as the average thunderstorm and wind.   Birds caused this.

Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger III is the ex Air Force pilot who glided this jet into freezing cold water.  If you watch the pics and video it was a matter of minutes and passengers were already standing on the wing ready to hop off the plane, wow.    Witnesses our describing the landing as an extremely rough bounce and it came to a stop.

I can’t imagine what the witnesses in Manhattan we’re thinking when they saw this plane going down.  Thank god it turned out the way it did.   I spent nearly two years as a road warrior consultant and spent week after week on commercial airlines right after 9/11 and this is crazy.  You know how many times we have all sat through and virtually ignored that silly water landing demonstration with the seat cushion?  A plane load of thankful passengers today.

This event literally happened exactly the way the little brochure in the seat pocket describes.   It’s good to see stories like this now and then.  You bet not one of these passengers was thinking about the economy, wall street woes, performance of their 401K, the change of administration, or the prospect of losing their job.

Take joy in the story and let it lift your day up a bit.
